Mandurah, Western Australia – cruising area

Comet Bay

Mandurah, Western Australia

Overview

Comet Bay sits just north of Mandurah and is a popular summer anchorage for Perth and Peel region sailors. The bay offers clean sand, clear water and gentle swell on calmer days.

It’s perfect for a lunch stop, swimming, and easy beach landings.

Anchorage

  • Depth: 5–10m
  • Bottom: Good sand holding
  • Protection: Best in easterlies; exposed to seabreeze chop
  • Hazards: Shoaling near the beach, jetskis on weekends

The seabreeze can make the anchorage bumpy in the afternoon, so most boats visit mornings or early evenings.

Things to Do

  • Swim off the long white-sand beach
  • Paddle to shore for coffee at the Mandurah foreshore
  • Kite-surfing is excellent when the seabreeze fills in

Notes for Cruisers

Avoid anchoring too close to the reef patches south of the bay. Depths vary quickly.
